GULFPORT MISSISSIPPI FIRE NEEDS ASSISTANCE:
Hi Ron,
I am sending you a letter with hopes
you can help me contact firefighters
across the nation who want to offer
assistance.
Thank you in advance,
Lt. Chris Henderson
Gulfport Fire
Hey Brothers and Sisters,
I have received numerous emails asking
how you can help or what we need.
It's hard for us to ask for anything
being in the business of helping
others, but under these extreme circumstances,
I decided to put together a
small list of needs. These are items
that firefighters are asking most about
in this stage of the game. I know it's
a long haul for most of you to drive
the items to us so if you would rather
send donations, or gift cards to
Lowes for instance, that would be a
big help too. Our Firefighters Local
272
has a relief fund set up at the Gulf
Coast Community Federal Credit Union
in
Gulfport to aid local firefighters.
Several of our members have suffered
total losses of their homes and insurance
is not picking up the bill due to
the flooding caused by Katrina. Homes
that were not in flood zones were not
only flooded by contaminated water but
some washed away completely.
(For Example: Battalion Chief Donlin
was only given $13,000 from his
insurance because the roof was the only
part of his home not washed away. He
and his family of four are now living
in a 28' FEMA camper until we can help
him and several others like him rebuild.)
It will be very difficult for firefighters
like him to rebuild without help.
We could use the following items:
* Appliances: (washers, dryers, stoves,
refrigerators, hot water heaters).
* Construction materials - sheet rock
(also mud, tape, screws), roofing
shingles, tarpaper, felt, cap nails,
plywood.
* PRAYERS
Gulfport now has a trailer for storage
and you can contact
