PennWell Corporation the parent corporation
that produces Fire Engineering Magazine
has announced that Texas Fire Chief
Robert (Bobby) Halton has been named
Chief Editor of Fire Engineering Magazine.
Chief Halton is a native New Yorker
whose family has deep roots in the Fire
Department of New York and the New York
City Police Department. He began his
career in structural firefighting with
the Albuquerque, New Mexico Fire Department
in 1984, attained national registry
as a paramedic, was chief of training,
and rose to the rank of chief of operations
until his retirement from that department
in 2004. He then became chief of the
Coppell, Texas Fire Department in July
of 2004.
Chief Halton is a graduate of the University
of New Mexico, left a member in good
standing with the International Association
of Fire Fighters, is a member of the
International Association of Fire Chiefs,
and has served on several National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA) technical
committees. He is active with the National
Fallen Firefighters (NFFF) Life Safety
Initiatives and serves on both the Fire
Engineering and Fire Department Instructors
Conference (FDIC) advisory boards. He
has done extensive speaking and training
for the fire service in the United States
and Canada.
Chief Halton was quoted by in the PennWell
Press Release as saying "I am humbled
to accept the position as the editor
of America's most prestigious fire training
magazine and the industry standard for
conferences, the Fire Department Instructors
Conference. I will serve the patrons
and supporters of Fire Engineering to
the best of my abilities and want to
thank my friends on the advisory board
and the owners and management of PennWell
Corp. for this incredible opportunity,".
In his role as Chief Editor, Chief
Halton will be responsible for overseeing
the editorial of Fire Engineering Magazine,
Fire Engineering E-Newsletter, FireEngineering.com,
and all education related to FDIC events.
Outside of his fire service related
pursuits Chief Halton's primary interests
are his wife, Marcia of 22 years and
his three sons, Evan, Ryan and Dean.
Congratulations to Chief Halton on
this major career change and achievement.
Most of the folks that know Chief Halton
personally see this move for him as
a very positive way for him to continue
all the great work done in the past
at FDIC and other fire service venues.
This new role at Fire Engineering will
allow Chief Halton to lead the fire
service in all firefighter education,
training and survival which is what
we are all in this business for in the
first place is it not?
