Sr. Firefighter John Rios Education Fund Established by Travis County ESD # 4

The Travis County Fire Control ESD # 4 has established a fund in memory of Senior Firefighter John Albert Rios. Firefighter Rios was only 30 years of age when he passed away August 24, 2005 from complications due of leukemia. Firefighter Rios was unaware that he had leukemia until he received results from his Annual Hazardous Material Team physical in 2004. He started his career in the fire service as a volunteer and became a State Certified Firefighter after attending the Travis County Fire Control Fire Training Academy.

The John Rios Education Fund has been started to provide scholarship funds for John's two daughters, Amanda Evelyn Rios and Marissa Isabella Rios. Please feel free to contact Fire Chief Don Smith or Office Manager Vicki Collins at 512-836-7566 if you have questions.

When making donations at the Bank of America, make donations to the "John Rios Education Fund." Donations can be made at any Bank of America location or can be dropped off or mailed to Travis County Fire Control / ESD#4, 11800 N. Lamar #4B, Austin, TX. 78753.
