The Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and the Fire Fighter Advisory Committee have scheduled a public hearing on October 5, 2005 in Austin to gather input regarding the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee on Firefighter Fitness and Wellness. (http://www.tcfp.state.tx.us/index.asp) The Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) leadership is currently discussing the recommendations and will be meeting online Monday morning to determine the association's position on the matter. An informal survey of TFCA members has shown that the average cost of NFPA-compliant firefighter physicals is $348. The TFCA membership has not presented a unified opinion regarding the three options the committee proposed.
