The National Volunteer Fire Council
(NVFC) has established an Emergency
Relief Fund to aid fire departments
that have been impacted by Hurricane
Katrina. The NVFC is working with its
state member fire associations in Alabama,
Louisiana and Mississippi to identify
departments in need. The Fund will focus
relief efforts toward equipment and
facility repair and replacement to allow
departments to become fully operational
in a timely manner.
"The NVFC stands ready to assist
the fire and emergency services that
have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina,"
said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg.
"The hardest hit areas rely heavily
on volunteer emergency responders and
it is the NVFC's role to facilitate
efforts to allow these departments to
once again be able to protect their
communities."
Checks will be issued to volunteer
and combination departments' once specific
needs are identified and donations have
been made to the Fund. Contributions
are tax-deductible. NVFC is donating
administrative costs associated with
the Fund to ensure that 100% of the
contributions reach departments in need.
Contributions to the Fund can be made
online at www.nvfc.org or can be mailed
to:
