Chief J. J. Adame has been selecteChus Christi Fire Department for 32 years, the last 18 as Fire Chief, Chief Adame started work in Austin on February 6, 2006. Acting Chief Jim Evans will return to his Assistant Chief position. Corpus Christi Assistant Chief Richard Hooks has been named Acting Fire Chief while the city conducts a search for a new Fire Chief.

Austin also hired Fort Lauderdale Fire Chief Otis Latin, a finalist for the fire chief position, as the city's new Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Chief Latin will work in the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management.

The Austin Fire Department has a $90 million budget and over 1,000 uniformed personnel.
