Families and individuals who suffered
damage from Hurricane Rita have been
approved to receive more than $952 million
in disaster assistance, including grants
from the U. S. Department of Homeland
Security's (USDHS), Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) and loans from
the U.S. Small Business Administration
(SBA).
Recovery Services Summary as of June
22, 2006:
o 479,942 individuals have registered
for Individual Assistance.
o $600,491,789 has been approved through
the Individuals and Household Program.
Of that, FEMA has provided $508,898,537
in Individual Assistance and $91,593,251
in Other Needs Assistance. The State
of Texas provided 25 percent or $22,898,312
of the Other Needs Assistance.
o $351,635,100 in loans has been approved
by the U.S. Small Business Administration
(SBA) for individuals and businesses
affected by Hurricane Rita in Texas.
Of that amount, $245,175,500 was approved
for home loans, $94,558,900 for business
loans and $11,900,700 for economic injury.
o $5,805,320 has been disbursed in
Disaster Unemployment Assistance; 7,923
claims have been approved.
o 348,950 home inspections have been
requested. Of these, 108 inspections
remain.
o 5,003 applicants have requested travel
trailers. Some 4,111 households have
leased 4,404 units (some larger households
have multiple trailers).
o $7.88 million in Public Assistance
has been obligated to Texas by FEMA.
The funds will be used by the State
of Texas to reimburse local governments
and agencies for eligible and documented
debris removal, temporary sheltering,
interim housing and emergency protective
measures associated with Hurricanes
Rita and Katrina.
o Homeowners, renters and business
owners who sustained damage from the
