The US General Services Administration
has a free website for emergency services
providers to learn about how to deal
with some of the post Oklahoma City
Bombing upgrades to many federal buildings.
Some anti-terrorism upgrades may present
an emergency ingress problem for emergency
response forces that respond to these
facilities in locations all over the
United States to include the state of
Texas.
The site features a multi-media tutorial
that will help firfighters leant how
to deal with specially designed windows
meant to protect occupants from glass
fragments and debris that may result
from explosions, high winds, gun shots,
physical attack, and other severe events.
These special windows are generally
harder to break than typical windows.
This may cause some difficulties for
an unsuspecting and unprepared firefighter
attempting to vent or clear a window.
This training presents background information
on blast, hurricane, and ballistic resistant
windows. Methods and issues associated
with clearing such windows are presented.
Students may evaluate their knowledge
by taking the examination and are eligible
for a certificate of training should
they pass the test.
In order to view this tutorial a high-speed
Internet connection is required. If
you do not have a high-speed Internet
connection and are unable to gain access
to one, you may download the classroom
manual to review. You will also need
speakers to hear the audio, Flash is
needed as well to view all of the the
content, and you should set your monitor
to 1024 x 768 for best viewing and Microsoft
Internet Explorer is the preferred web
browser.
